I spent my Saturday night calculating how to knit socks, watching The Office, and baking a King Cake.
I have noooooooo concept of time now that I'm not in New Orleans. Mardi Gras is next week, and it TOTALLY snuck up on me!
I talked to almost every member of my family today, which was nice. Then I was looking at some pictures from Christmas, and realized that I never uploaded them anywhere! Here are a few.
This will include the Recital, Mardi Gras, and the recent event of me applying for a Job in Vegas. It's gonna be long, sorry.
The Recital was almost two weeks ago. My family wasn't coming into town
until the morning of, so I felt a little scared about getting
everything together. Thank goodness for Beth's parents. They took us
shopping for food for the reception, they came to our dress rehearsal
and gave awesome comments on how it sounded in the hall, what we needed
to do more of, etc. They were really awesome to have around until my
own family showed up. I was sad that my family wouldn't be there until
Sunday, but sort of excited that the first time they would hear me play
my piece would be at the recital.
So, the recital happened. I can't really speak for Beth and Danielle,
but I thought we all did really well. It was a huge milestone, and we
did it. We all survived!
I took LOTS of pictures at the reception, but I'm only going to post the three that I think are the most important.
So, that was that. It was strange to go back to Student Teaching the
day afterwards. I was like, "Wait. What? The world goes on after my
recital?"
The week after the recital, I didn't practice for my Friday lesson
until Thursday. I decided that I needed (and deserved!) a break! So, on
Thursday night, I looked at my scale I'd been working on before the
recital, my etude, and a new piece that I have! A viola sonata by
Rebecca Clarke. I'm really, really excited about this piece! I heard it
performed twice in my Katrina semester at the University of Houston,
and I fell in love with it. I decided that if there was ever a chance
for me to play it, I wanted to take it. Bruce gave it to me at the
beginning of the semester, because I asked to work on it :] So, yeah.
And it's really, really awesome because since I don't have to play a
jury this semester (because of the recital) I can really work on the
Clarke because of me. I won't be pressed for time and stressed about
it, I can really just do it because I want to. It's an amazing feeling.
It was strange to have a real lesson. One in which I played my scale,
etude, and what I'd learned of the Clarke. I'd been having strictly
Recital lessons for a month, where I just played the Reger and we
worked on performance techniques.
Then, MARDI GRAS HAPPENED! Friday, February 16, after my lesson, the Mardi Gras Madness began!
Beth and I went to Krewe d'Etat, always one of our favorite parades, that night. It was 29F outside!! We both had on so many layers! We were fine for about an hour or so, but then it just kept getting colder and colder. We finally got some dinner, too. After searching for the Papa John's pizza carts that were everywhere BUT where we were sitting, we finally got some cheese pizza. And then we were good. Crazy Drunk Tulane Man came up to us, though, and jokingly tried to take our last piece of pizza. We almost brought the smack down.Saturday at 1am, Kristin came into town! We went to Endymion on Saturday as a big group. We saw Taylor Hicks, who was co-marshal of the parade, JOURNEY, the other co-marshal, and STYX. Beth caught a cup from Journey. The parade itself was LAME, so we went to our favorite Chinese food restaurant that was close by. Drama happened. Drama that wasn't really our fault, but that we got roped into anyway. Not worth writing about because it's over.
Monday we did nothing! It was awesoooome. We played lots of cards and watched movies. A good relaxing day.
Then it was Fat Tuesday! Rex was rolling at 10am, so we rode bikes down to the parade route around 9am. We got an awesome spot right next to Superior Grill, which had set up a huge sound system and was blasting music all morning.
All in all, a good final Mardi Gras.
It's wierd to think that it was my last Mardi Gras as a student.
So, Jessica and I are both applying for Jobs in Vegas. It's good because we definitely want to stay together, at least for the next year, so we can have a support system in place already. And Vegas would really be an awesome place for that, too, because there's so many Loyola graduates out there already, that they could be a part of the support system as well. Mr. Angeles said that Vegas would be like going to grad school, but getting paid for it.
So, we both filled out the first part, the Interest form, and we both recieved an email granting us access to the second part, the actual application. I hyperventilated a little bit when I got the email, because I was like, "Oh, it's really happening, I'm really graduating, and I have to grow up." But I got over it a little bit. Now I'm just nervous about filling out the actual application and the interview process.
WHEW, that was long. If you've made it all the way down here, leave a comment (or don't, whatever, haha) for your prize. (I'll think of one later.)
