I spent my Saturday night calculating how to knit socks, watching The Office, and baking a King Cake.
I have noooooooo concept of time now that I'm not in New Orleans. Mardi Gras is next week, and it TOTALLY snuck up on me!
I talked to almost every member of my family today, which was nice. Then I was looking at some pictures from Christmas, and realized that I never uploaded them anywhere! Here are a few.
Packing is HARD.
I do not enjoy it. It's really strange to think that this time next week, I'll be with Jessica's family in Las Vegas. I'm glad that I'll be with them, though, and not completely on my own just yet.
I have a nice new car (2007 Saturn Ion), nice car insurance, and a nice fun road trip ahead with my father. Hooray. We're going to drive as long as we can the first night, so we'll hit either El Paso or Las Cruces, and then the next night, we're staying with an old friend of my dad's in Flagstaff, and then heading to Vegas the next morning. Sunday night, I'll probably be blogging from Sin City.
WOO.
I honestly can't wait to live with Jessica again. It's going to be fantastic.
I finished my Greenleaf scarf last night! Just need to block and add fringe.
And yeah, that's basically the update on my life. Knitting, packing, moving, incurring lots and lots of debt.
Yup.
Today Kevin, one of my violinists, vowed to call me "Ms. Dianiska" until the end of the semester because, "no one else does!" (Which is true, most call me Ms. D (because "Dianiska" is a mouthful) and some insubordinate ones still call me "Miss Laura.")
Yesterday Jorge came up to me and said, "You look exceptionally ravishing today." The children are crazy.
I have news on the job front. I got a call at the beginning of 8th
period today from a 702 number, which is Vegas. It was a different
number than the one that called me for my phone interview on Friday
(which went well, I think the asst. principal was ready to hire me over
the phone), so I was confused! I ran outside to take it, telling the
children to behave while I was gone.
It was the principal of Keller Middle School in Las Vegas, which is in
a good area of town. She heard that I was "an excellent strings
teacher," and etc. I was like, "Umm, well, I like to think so ..." But,
yeah. I told her that she had caught me a little off-guard, because it
was at the beginning of a class, so I asked if I could call her back
sometime later in the week and we could discuss it in more detail.
So, I was basically on cloud 9 for the rest of the class period. On the
walk home, I called my mom to tell her about it. While I was on the
phone, I got a beep that said I had a new missed call and a new
voicemail. These were from ANOTHER Vegas number. I was like, "WHAT." I
told my mom, and she said that my dad had said that a woman from Vegas
had called the house this afternoon looking for me, and Dad gave them
my cell number. Mom said that Dad made it sound like this woman was a
coordinator of some sort, but since I'd only talked to the principal of
this MS, I assumed that's who had called the house.
So, I got home and decided to be even later to orchestra rehearsal to
listen to this voicemail. Turns out, it was Marsha Neil, the fine arts
coordinator woman for CCSD. She'd called to tell me that I may be
getting a call from the principal at Keller MS, and if she does call,
that I should definitely take the job. She said, "You know I'm a friend
of Dean's, and he has just told me wonderful, wonderful things about
you!" I had to think for a second before I realized that she was
talking about Mr. Angeles :D
I think, when the fine arts coordinator for a school district tells you to take a job, you should probably take the job. Nothing is set in stone yet, though. I need to talk in greater detail about all of this, and I need to get over my fear about asking about salary and benefits.
My dad called me at 7:30 yesterday morning to tell me that the school that he works at burned down that morning. And he'd just gotten a new computer in his office on Friday, but didn't want to take it home because he didn't want Rachel messing with it. (She's very interested in computers.) But, luckily, he took home the laptop that has all of his personal records on it, so that's good. And luckily no one was there when it started, so no one was hurt. Apparently, though, everyone except the seniors, who had their test scores sent elsewhere (colleges, etc), has to re-take their standardized tests, because the front office burned. Suuuuuucks.
I am ALL ABOUT the parentheses today, geez.
Happy Holidays! This is the picture that we sent out as Christmas cards, in addition to a Family one.
I've been hesitant to post, because I didn't want John Krasinski removed from the top of my Vox. Haha.
Been shopping for Teacher Clothes. I must say, I am going to be one stylish teacher. I have 4 new pairs of pants: brown, black, dark gray, and khaki; 5 jackets: black, brown (in the same style as the black), brown courdoroy, gray, and red & black plaid. 3 new pairs of shoes, too.
For Christmas, Rachel got Veronica Mars seasons 1 & 2, and we watched them in three days. 2 seasons in 3 days. It was ridiculous. But I have a new fixation, and his name is Logan Echolls.
I got lots of awesome stuff for Christmas. Almost all of it was a surprise, which was awesome, because I usually know everything that I'm getting because Mom and I always go shopping together. I got some awesome reed diffuser things, which smell like scented candles but aren't, because I can't have candles in the dorm. I also got a heating wrap like the one we have at home, which I am so excited about. I also got Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex, which I cannot wait to read. Mom said it was amazing.
I need a recital dress. I'm thinking either blue or green. Must. Shop. More. Oh, darn.
I start Student Teaching in a few weeks. Yikes?
